I Left My Heart in Saratoga…and You Should Too

26 Jul

Last summer, I interned for Live Nation in Saratoga Springs, NY and fell in love with the area. What’s not to love!? There is quite literally something for everyone. I’m here to tell you to VISIT Saratoga if you have a chance. Here are just a few reasons. If you can time it right, be sure to check out a concert at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC). The venue is absolutely beauitul and the concerts (and tailgating) are always a blast. And if you’re a nature person, SPAC is located in a state park.

Perhaps Saratoga’s most well-known attraction is the Saratoga Race Track. This past weekend was opening weekend, so the city was bustling with locals and out-of-towners. Most people were able to ignore the constant rain over the weekend in hopes of participating in some betting. The energy at the track is so fun; there are families, adults, and children who dress up in big fancy hats and dresses or dress down. You’re allowed to bring your own food and alcohol in also which is a major plus. Even if you don’t like betting your money, it’s still a great place to experience and I would recommend visiting!

Another fun aspect of Saratoga is downtown. When you’re in the heart of the city, you’ll most likely find yourself strolling down Broadway. The road is packed with restaurants, stores, hotels, bars and people.  The restaurants are great (and sometimes overpriced), but definitely worth checking out.  When it comes to the nightlife, go to Caroline Street, which is right off Broadway. Caroline is packed with one bar after another, so you can find something for everyone.

Speaking of bars and Caroline St., a bunch of my friends and I walked downtown on Saturday night to check out the scene. Understandably, it was mobbed because of the track just opening. As we were about to go into Gaffney’s (awesome bar, huge outside deck!), we happened to stumble upon Kevin Connolly, known for playing E in the show Entourage.  Kevin and Kevin Dillon (Drama) bought Siro’s, a well-known restaurant near the race track. As some people predicted, they were in Saratoga this past weekend checking out the nightlife and most likely the track. I didn’t speak to E, but one of my friends shook his hand. I tried taking a picture but it didn’t come out well. He came up to my shoulder and had a wild hat on…and he was spotted getting into a cab with a young blonde thing at around 3:15 AM.

As I’m sure you can tell by this point, I am pretty much obsessed with Saratoga. The last thing I want to tell you about is the location. It is perfect! You’re a 20 minute drive from Albany, so if you’re looking for a bigger city or shopping, it’s close enough. In the opposite direction is Lake George, which is absolutely beautiful. There are camps, outlets, hotels, shopping, and beaches to enjoy in that area. Anyway, if you get a chance, I would really recommend going to Saratoga for a night, weekend, or week. You’re guarunteed a great time and there is so much to do around there. The beautiful city itself is nice too…
